As the Clinical Director of Lighthouse Occupational Therapy, Karen is an Occupational Therapist and Case Manager, and has been working in the Hunter for over 20 years.
Karen is a nationally registered Occupational Therapist with AHPRA, who graduated from the University of Newcastle in 1998 with a Bachelor of Health Science (Occupational Therapy). She is a member of Occupational Therapy Australia and Hunter Occupational Therapy Group. She has completed a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) 2013, and Certificate IV Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care, 2018. Working for Hunter New England Health for most of her career, she has established a private practice as an Occupational Therapist and Case Manager.
Through working as an Occupational Therapist and Case Manager, Karen has supported many people on their treatment and rehabilitation journeys, when working in hospitals, rehabilitation units and community settings. She has worked in many multidisciplinary teams, and helps people access specialist supports that they require. Karen has worked in many senior Occupational Therapy roles, and through this experience is able to offer support to people with complex and challenging physical, social, and psychological needs.
Karen has extensive experience working with adults in the community, using education, equipment and assistive technology to help people overcome challenges in daily life. She is committed to ongoing professional development, and the provision of quality services. She aims to help people improve their quality of life through achieving their goals, completing everyday tasks as safely and independently as possible, and participate in activities and life roles that give purpose and meaning to everyday life.
